This time the popular Restaurant Manolito with lovely food and nice service in A Coruña. We got for free some shots by the way at the end of our meal. Thanks!

Mixing work with pleasure, can´t be better, can it?
Qué ricos!. Pimientos de Padrón! Me encantan!.
Yesterday I invited some friends to Tapas and I have had the chance to mak my first aloli. I still have the taste of it and I love it!

Hi there, Miss Marisol here from La Coruña, Spain. How are things? Last Saturday Miss Lopez and I got together in our home town of La Coruña in Galicia, Spain. We had not seen each other since last New Year’s Eve and it was great to see her again, she looks great!!!! As you know, we went to the wonderful concert of Galician Folk band DOA at the wonderful Fort of San Anton in the harbor of La Coruña. Incredible acoustic experience in a beautiful location! Check DOA online at www.doa-music.com!
But I am not here to tell you about DOA, Miss Lopez has already told you all about them.
I am bringing you a recipe of what it is in my personal opinion the second most famous TAPA in Spain. Ensaladilla Rusa. It is said that a Russian invented the salad in the late XIX century. We don’t know what the original Russian salad was like, but we, Spaniards, have made our own version and eat it as a tapa, one of Miss Lopez´s favorite! We also eat it as a side dish, great with barbecue in the summer. Many families even prepare home-made mayonnaise to dress it, can you believe it?
To begin you will need the following ingredients (Aprox. 4 sides, 10 tapas) :
• 7 medium potatoes
• 2 roasted red peppers (bottled is fine)
• 1.16 oz can of peas and carrots, drained ( you may use cooked frozen or fresh as well)
• 2 hard-boiled eggs
• 1 6 oz can tuna in olive oil
• 1 can pimento or anchovy filled green olives
• Mayonnaise – For home-made, see recipe link below.
• 4-5 spears white asparagus for garnish
Let’s start cooking!
Scrub the potatoes to clean off any lose dirt and sand. Pour water into a large pot, cover and bring to a boil on high heat. Place potatoes in the pot and boil them with skins on until they are cooked, but not too soft. Test the doneness by pricking with a fork to make sure they are cooked, but still firm. Don’t overcook the potatoes or when mixing the salad, you’ll end up with mashed potatoes! Drain the water from the pot and add cold water to the pot, covering the potatoes. Change every few minutes until the potatoes are cool enough to handle with your bare hands. Refrigerate for a few minutes to cool further. Remove from refrigerator and peel potatoes. Cut into small (approximately 1/2″) cubes. Return to refrigerator while you prepare the other ingredients. Put approximately 1 1/2 cups of mayonnaise into a bowl. Slice 1 of the roasted pepper into strips about 1/3 inch wide, then cut into smaller pieces and add to bowl. Drain tuna thoroughly, then crumble with a fork and add to bowl. Drain carrots and peas and add to bowl. Peel 1 egg, chop and add to bowl. Mix all ingredients together. Add the mayonnaise mixture to the potatoes and mix thoroughly. If necessary, add more mayonnaise. Smooth top of potato salad, preparing for decoration. Slice remaining red pepper into thin strips and arrange on top of salad. Drain the white asparagus and slice hard-boiled eggs carefully. Use both to decorate the salad as seen in the pictures.
As Miss. Lopez says, RIQUISSSSIMO!!!! Enjoy the Ensaladilla Rusa and continue to feel good Womanhood! I and Miss Lopez are already enjoying all the wonderful tapas and food Galicia has to offer! Hasta la Vista!!!
Hola amigos, Miss Barcelona is back with more tips for your vacation. VIVA VACATION!! 😉
The last time I recommended to you a very fancy restaurant, but there are also very typical tapas restaurants in Barcelona that even tough not as Fancy as Tickets bar are incredibly good!!!
If you are in Barcelona or you have visit it for more than a week you probably had been in this classic of Barceloneta’s neighborhood, I am talking about LA CHAMPANYERIA, located in C/ de la Reina Cristina 7 in the old harbor and very close to the beach.
For the ones that haven’t been there you definitely HAVE to pay it a visit at least once during your stay in Barcelona, why?
What about this: a traditional medieval “tasca” where they only serve the best “embutidos”, sausages, Spanish ham, Manchego cheese and the best homemade sparkling wine you can imagine.
I’m not done yet, you can enjoy of two delicious “bocadillos” and a bottle of “champañillo” for only 5€, yes you read correctly, even nowadays you can find bargains like this and still enjoy of top quality food and drinks, how can they do that, you may wonder?
This is a place that had been open to the public since 1969 and since their opening they had always attracted tons of people on a daily basis, and they also produce the wine themselves so they can reduce the costs without compromising the quality of their products. VIVA GOOD TAPAS!!!
If you are still skeptical just pay a visit to this incredibly place, and you will see the crowd standing outside the establishment, that is why I recommend you to go early, very early, if you go from 3 to 5 it’s very possible that you find a place close to the bar to stand up. You also want to go there before 5 so you can be able to buy the “bocadillos” and the bottle since from 5pm only individual glasses are served, but hey, that doesn’t matter qué siga la fiesta!!!
It’s closed on Sundays and the rest of the days it opens from 9 to 22:30. Normally it is very crowded at all hours, especially during the summer and on the weekends, but don’t be shy the atmosphere is very friendly, don’t be surprised if your glass gets refilled by the neighbor’s bottle and it’s more that probable that you leave with some new friends to continue la fiesta in the city.
I can guarantee that you will leave La Champanyeria, tipsy, satisfy, with new friends and plenty of money left on your wallet!! So amigos, enjoy of your vacation in Barcelona, make new friends and feel good. VIVA FRIENDLY PEOPLE!!!
One more tip, you can buy bottles to take away or even better you can order them but only if you buy a minimum of 2 boxes of 6 bottles, they will be deliver them in between two days.
Don’t miss out our tips for your vacation in Spain, all of us will continue to write about the hottest spots to be and been seeing in Spain!! Stay connected to Miss Lopez for the best information, always, with a Latin touch. VIVA LATIN TOUCH!! 😉
Hola amigos, Miss Barcelona is back with some news from Barcelona, my city, I think that since the vacation period it’s so close it’s very interesting to give you some tips about my amazing city, what a better tip that a good place to eat??? 😉
When one of the best chefs in the world, the awarded Ferran Adrià announced the closing of his famous restaurant EL BULLI, in Figueres, at the end of this year, everybody was chocked. And it’s not surprising; this THREE Michelin start restaurant is being the heart of creative Spanish food for 50 years!!!
Adrià calms his fans and affirms that it would be only closed for two years, he wants to dedicate time to investigate and to promote LAS TAPAS, yes you read well amigos, Ferran Adrià has said that he believes that in the future the fine dining restaurants would disappear being substituted by casual tapas bars, since people would prefer to socialize more and more.
He believes in tapas so much that he is cooperating with the Spanish beer company Estrella Damm, (my favorite beer in the whole world!!!) in a campaign to promote the tapas, during this campaign, he would investigate the origin of the tapas, he would choose the ones that best represent Spain and all this investigation project would be reflected on a book. VIVA TAPAS WAY OF LIFE!!! 🙂
But I have very good news for you my lovely friends, El Bullí will close soon, but Ferran Adrià and his brother Albert, had opened a totally new restaurant in Barcelona, definitely a must visit named TICKETS BAR, a tapas paradise where you can make a route all over the Spanish cuisine in one stop.
The place is distributed in several stations; let’s see how they describe them:
La Presumida (the vain) is the reflection of Mediterranean Barcelona, of the blue sea and the shining sun in the morning, in this station a repertoire of sea food, Bruños, clams and shrimps and lobsters from Costa Brava gets mixed with Galician oysters, and knife cut ham.
The second bar is called La Estrella (the star), is a place for drinks where the queen is the Estrella Damm beer, made in Barcelona with the same recipe from 1876, which will be a great complement for your tapas.
The third station is called Camarote de los hermanos Marx (Marx brother’s cabin), is a place for swine and rogues, these very diligent and fun people will received the clients and treat them as if they were characters from Romeo and Juliet, I mean like kings and queens as they deserve!!! I Love It Baby!!!! Viva el camarote de los hermanos Marx!!!
The fourth station is Nostromo 180286 and it is a Xuxi bar, these is a futusirtic station, where innovative little dishes, Xuxis, integrate the Spanish food culture, using fine fresh local ingredients like cuttlefish with onion cocked in ink and almond pasta, Manchego cheese ice cream or bacon with mustard sauce and crunchy cucumber.
El Garatge (the garage), is the fifth station, here is where the simplest and the most complicated dishes are made, starting from Catalan traditional and simple pà amb tomaquet(bread with spread tomato) following with meat, snacks, sandwiches or steam bread stuffed with grilled pineapple or watermelon.
Finally La Dolça(the sweet), these is where you can get dessert, but not any dessert, what about ginger ice cream and orange iced drink with white vermouth, or crunchy strawberries with white chocolate and yoghurt?? YUMMY!!!
The best part of it it’s that you can enjoy of all the knowledge of this three Michelin start awarded chef for around 25€ to 55€. You definitely HAVE to visit this restaurant during your holidays but a piece of advice, make your reservations in advance, you can do it online here, and if I were you, I would do it NOW!!!!
Everything looks so yummy that I can’t wait to go to Barcelona this summer and try some of these delicious dishes!!!! VIVA SPANISH FOOD!!!!
If you haven’t had enough here mis amigos, you can visit Coctelería 41 grados, these is a modern cocktail bar where you can get the most creative drinks for 12€ and some creative tapas like the Bloody Mary (crunchy tomato with basil butter, extra virgin olive oil caviar and cheddar cookies). The entrance is in the same Tickets bar, but you need to make reservations as well.
I hope this information is useful for your vacation, stay connected to Miss Lopez for the best information, always, with a Latin touch. VIVA MISS LOPEZ!!! 😉
